About Hitchin and Stopsley Karate Clubs

The Hitchin Karate Club is run by Sensei Paul Grimsey (4th Dan), Sensei Wayne James (3rd Dan) and Sensei Angus Pearson (3rd Dan).

The Hitchin club was started in September 2000 and now has over 40 members both junior and adult. Sensei Grimsey always welcomes new students and any ESKA member looking to enhance their training. Either turn up at a training session and join in, or contact us for more information.

The Stopsley Karate Club is run by Sensei Wayne James (3rd Dan) and Sensei Martin Dempsey (2nd Dan), both instructors are EKGB Qualified.

The Stopsley club is split across two hours, firstly for juniors and then for adults.

Family Friendly

"When my 8 year old daughter's punches started to hurt, I thought it was time to start Karate myself."

Self Defence

Good Karate is a most effective form of unarmed combat. The main reasons are simple: it is designed to disable with one move, it has techniques against all forms of attack; it was developed through centuries of harsh experience; it trains the mental and emotional skills of combat, together with the physical.

Strength and size are not important in Karate. It can be done well whatever your strength, although a weak person will become stronger as he/she progresses. Karate teaches you how to avoid possible confrontations, it is better to de-fuse or to avoid a dangerous situation than to confront it.

What do you need to start?

To start off with whilst you are deciding whether karate is for you, you can train in normal sports gear such as jogging bottoms and a T-shirt. Once you get into however you will need a karate suit or Gi which are available through the club.
